Pasture Mate

Jet Star was foaled in Salinas, California, on April 29, 1983. She is a registered Appendix Quarter Horse, and a granddaughter to the legendary Easy Jet (seehttp://www.sunrisewest.com/easyjet.html). She is 5/8 thoroughbred in breeding. After a few years of racing in Northern California, she was sold off the track to a barrel racing barn, where she did not excel, and was sold to a large rental string. When I bought her at 10 years old, she had had a number of bad experiences that made her flighty and fearful of people and other animals, but within a year of calm and steady work, she became a complete pleasure both in hand and under saddle. In the pasture, Jet is very smart about managing other horses and staying out of trouble. The largest herd she has been in was in the rental string, when she was pastured with 30 other horses and neither picked fights nor got entangled in them. I watched her integrate a new hard of 12 mares a few years later, and observed her carefully move up the pecking order with minor fuss, systematically working through feeding times until she became second in command. Jet Star has a lot of thoroughbred looks and quarterhorse behaviors, and would be an ideal pasture mate in her retirement years. In September 2005, Jet suffered a severe trauma to her right hip, probably from rushing through a gate, which has left her favoring her right hind and bearing weight on her left. In the four years since the accident, she has received intermittent massage, chiropractic care, electro acupuncture and cortisone shots, none of which seemed to help her recover her former soundness. She can still be ridden lightly and is willing to work, but is ready for full retirement. She seems to have adapted to her condition and doesn't require much special attention--she thrives on alfalfa cubes. She is calm around small children and other animals.

She is currently turned out in an individual paddock next to her favorite gelding, so my need some reintroduction to a herd setting, but she loves foals and is a great babysitter! Gets along well with small ponies too.

 Horses and Ponies For Sale

7 year-old registered paint mare, about 15’2 hands. Kota has had good foundation training (Jeff Holzer), and some finished training. Kota responds well, learns fast, and is eager to please. She has not been ridden in a couple of years - some ground work is necessary before riding. She has a wonderful, sweet temperament and loves attention. (She is, however afraid of needles).  Kota is pretty layed back, and never in a hurry. She needs time and attention, which is why I’ve decided to sell her. She will make an excellent riding companion with just a little bit of work. $1800.00

Morgan/Arab pony cross. This filly 2 years old and has the wonderful, calm but spirited,
disposition of her fine-blooded grandparents. She is 12hh. She ground drives great and I
have driven her with a light cart a few times. She is ready to start under saddle. Rena is
very gentle and has been raised from birth using many of John Lyon's methods. She is easy
to handle and is a fast, eager learner. Putting her heart into what is asked of her,
always responding with a willing heart, whether it be loading into a trailer, being
clipped, sat on, led through traffic, or simply standing quietly while small children
clamor around, hugging, and patting her all over. She is in no way lazy; I have just tried
to prepare her for whatever her future might bring. I hate to see her go but due to
limited pasture space, I must sell her soon. I am asking $1,300 for her but due to the
need to sell; I will negotiate on the price. For more information, please contact Heather

DJ is a handsome chestnut Appendix QH gelding, 15.3, 12 y/o.  Great on trails, which is what I've done with him the last 3 years.
When I bought him I was told he was on the track as a 2 y/o (raced 4 times), trained for barrel racing and western pleasure.
He's a pretty mover and very comfortable.  He is opinionated and will test his rider so needs a confident and experienced rider.

She has maintained steady nerves when coming upon deer and other animals on the trail.

She has very good ground manners, works well with the farrier and is well behaved around children.

She crossties and stalls very well.  Her gaits are fast therefore intermediate and advanced riders are recommended.
